INITIATIVE: WorldBank's Policy Division Program
Description
The website of the World Bank's Global Information and Communication Technologies (GICT) department explains: "The Policy Division of GICT is responsible for the World Bank’s business in the ICT sector. It helps governments design and implement ICT development policies through a broad range of instruments," including, among others: sector reform; Internet, convergence, and e-strategies; strengthening regulatory structures; design of universal access policies; and ICT applications, such as connecting schools and universities to the Internet. Why is this initiative significant?
Information and communication technologies (ICTs) make up a critical part of a country's infrastructure today. Developing countries can draw on the expertise of the World Bank to improve this part of their infrastructure. |
