ITU's Activities on Countering Spam
Description

As described on the ITU website, ITU's activities countering spam include the following:

  • Anti-spam laws and authorities

"In the framework of its "Countering Spam" activities, ITU has created a database to gather anti-spam laws worldwide, and to provide a list of the competent enforcement authorities and their contact details."

  • International cooperation

"ITU is implementing a series of cooperative activities on countering spam, in the shorter and longer term, to foster international cooperation, the creation of harmonized policy frameworks, and to promote the exchange of information and best practices, as well as to provide support to developing countries in the field of spam."

Why is this initiative significant?

As a multilateral institution, the ITU can help countries coordinate efforts to combat spam. This initiative is particularly important in developing countries, where people are not as aware of spam-filtering tools supplied by the private sector.
